Hi. I’m Whitney Taman. I am a Registered Social Worker. More specifically, I am someone who supports individuals throughout different human experiences.

I support people who want to feel more connected to themselves and others, people who want to experience a better quality of life or people who want to be more in control of their emotions.  I enjoy helping people feel less anxious, less depressed, less stressed and begin to feel more like themselves again.  Do you feel like you are carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders? Are you feeling burnt out? Or overwhelmed?  I can help you recharge and find balance.

I know from over a decade of experience in working with individuals as a mental health clinician, the importance of being seen, heard and understood.  From my clinical work, I know that individuals are capable of making meaningful changes in their lives and often benefit from having extra support in making change a reality.  I am passionate about teaching the tools and techniques that support individuals in reaching their goals and potential.

The mental health field is constantly evolving. As a lifelong learner, I focus on keeping up-to-date with the latest research. I bridge the gap between research and application and love to see the benefits of this in my therapy sessions.

My style is informed by a variety of evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Brief Solution Focused Therapy, Somatic Experiencing and Trauma-Sensitive Yoga. 

 

My approach is strength-based, trauma-informed and research oriented with an emphasis on compassion, authenticity and progress.  I provide individual talk therapy, therapeutic yoga programs and social work services to adults residing in Ontario.

PSYCHOTHERAPY & COUNSELLING

Talk therapy is a type of treatment that can help individuals experiencing a wide variety of mental health and emotional challenges. I offer effective, holistic and individualized approaches that are evidence-based.

YOGA

Trauma-informed yoga programs are tailored to individuals experiencing chronic pain, anxiety, depression, psychological distress, grief and trauma. This embodied approach to healing and wellbeing can be used alone or as a compliment to psychotherapy and other interventions.

Workshops & Programs: A variety of specialized and customizable workshops and yoga programs tailored to meet specific needs of individuals or groups.

WHAT IS VIRTUAL SERVICE?

Virtual Service means you can access support from the comfort of your own home. Appointments are offered by phone or videoconferencing to adults residing in Ontario.

WILL MY HEALTH INSURANCE COVER THERAPY?

Most extended healthcare benefits cover the costs of services delivered by a Registered Social Worker.  
I will direct bill for Veterans Affairs Canada.
I am a provider for Non-insured Healthcare Benefits for eligible First Nations and Inuit people.  I had the privilege of growing up in Northeastern Ontario, which has provided me with an understanding of the unique needs of Northern communities. I maintain an on-going commitment to enhancing my cultural competency with openness, humility and acceptance.

CAN YOGA BE COMBINED WITH PSYCHOTHERAPY?

Absolutely! Combining yoga and psychotherapy creates a more holistic healing process.

HOW LONG WILL THERAPY LAST?

Therapy lasts as long as you want and need it to. For some people, a few sessions may be enough and others may need more depending on the desired goals. Therapy is an investment of both time and money. Your time and money are valuable, so I try to be as goal oriented as possible in each session.

HOW MUCH DOES THERAPY COST?

Therapy is an investment and I want to ensure you get great value.  We can discuss adjusting your appointment frequency to meet your financial needs or extended health benefits coverage. If you only have minimal extended health coverage, remember that even short-term therapy can be beneficial.

Payments are accepted by e-transfer at the beginning of each session.

​

Out of respect for each other's time, there is a 24-hour cancellation policy. If you fail to attend your appointment, you will be charged a full session fee. 

HOW DO I BOOK AN APPOINTMENT?

You can schedule an appointment through the website, by emailing breathingspacetherapeutics@gmail.com 

You will receive an intake form to complete prior to your first appointment.

In the first session, we will review confidentiality and begin to discuss the concerns that brought you into therapy. I will listen and ask questions to gain a preliminary understanding of your experiences. We will begin to generate goals that you would like to work toward and achieve throughout the therapy process. Together, we will determine the right frequency of sessions that best suits your needs while progressing toward your goals.
